Discussion Guide

1. On the way to Farleigh, NC Blanche meets Thelvin, the train conductor, who shows an interest in her. She also sees her former lover Leo while in Farleigh. Discuss her behavior with these men and what it reveals about Blanche's attitude about relationships.

2. Blanche sees David Palmer, the man who raped her, shortly after rescuing Clarice from Seth, the man who was assaulting her. For fear of what would happen to him Clarice says she will not tell Mr. Henry about the incident, just as Blanche did not tell Leo at the time of her attack. Discuss how this silence could impact a relationship.

3. How does Blanche's plans to get revenge and cause David Palmer grief get circumvented by other events?

4. Archibald has his issues with Mumsfield's finance' Karen so he solicits Blanche's assistance to get proof of his suspicions. What was Blanches' motivation to take on Archibald's sleuthing project.
